Introducing the Little Imagineers Padoo® play sofa!

Little Imagineers is a family-run business, and the brainchild of Tom and Helen Harper, inspired by their sofa climbing children, Charlie and Harry. Forced into home-play by the lockdown their two children were making pirate ships out of mattresses and upturned cushions. These innovative and creative parents designed the multi-functional Padoo® – a new piece of play furniture which is ideal for a bedroom or playroom to keep for children and toddlers entertained at home.

“We are very excited to launch the Padoo so other parents and children can enjoy the endless benefits of active, open-ended play and den-making without boundaries in the comfort of their own home. After the struggles of lockdown and back to school looming let’s make home a fun zone!” Tom Harper, Founder

The premium quality Padoo® is non-age specific and invites playful, creative, open-ended fun without detracting from the style of a home with its minimal block colour look. The Padoo® was created by a family to be a versatile family product – it moves between rooms and suits all our needs. Preschool age Norah loves using the Padoo® for soft play, as a slide and assault course. This helps her develop physically, creatively, and socially by inviting invention and open-ended play. Leo has additional sensory needs, he loves the feel of the fabric and relaxing in a cushion den with a book. Do you end up sleeping on the floor in your children’s bedroom? The second night of review Norah was ill and rather than lying cold on her floor I used the Padoo® as a temporary bed. It is also ideal for use during a daytime nap or sleepover.

Ordering and delivery.

The Padoo® is available in a range of colour choices to purchase off the Little Imagineers website. Their refundable swatch service means you can sample the fabrics. Retailing at £495 (including a 1-year warranty) payment can be made in 3 instalments with Paypal. The launch collection offers free delivery, orders are aimed to be fulfilled within 2 weeks and Little Imagineers use 48hr Parcel Force delivery. The Padoo® is shipped fully tracked in 3 large recyclable cardboard boxes – base pads, top layer pads and wedge pads, so you’ll know when it’s likely to arrive. Practically, I could lift each one myself. As an added extra it will arrive in a majestic multi-purpose box by BoxWay Packaging Group that embodies the essence of the brand. Children will be delighted by the Padoo®* but also the unfolding of the box into a suite of discovery board games.

Welcome Little Imagineers and its mission to help kids discover their instinct to play, explore their environment and grow creatively!

*Each Padoo® measures 150cm wide, 75cm deep and 50cm high when set up as a sofa.

What is the Padoo® play sofa made of?

We tested out the Peacock Padoo®, which is made from luxury, soft, spill-resistant deep turquoise micro suede. It has an abrasion test score of over 30,000 rubs, and a colour fastness score of 5/5 for exposure to light. It also has a pilling test score of 5 out of 5, so no bobbling. In simple the play sofa is made from the highest quality fabric and foam to ensure years of use, without losing shape or volume.

I would describe the cushions as medium firmness. It needs to be springy enough to bounce on, soft enough to sleep on, and durable enough to keep its shape through energetic, daily use. Built for family life the stain and liquid repellent properties in our high-tech fabrics make cleaning easy. We like that the cushions are light and have wide, comfortable handles so it’s easy for even small children to pick up and move around.

Thinking about safety.

The Peacock Padoo® manufacture complies with all relevant toy and furniture safety requirements (EN71 parts 1,2,3 and F&F Fire Safety Regulations 1988). All fabrics, foams and labels are Reach Compliant and all fabrics meet Oeko-Tex Standard 100 (they have been additionally tested for any harmful regulated or non-regulated substances).

As an added reassurance, whilst the covers are machine washable, they have locks on the zips (which would need to be removed before washing). The zip locks are to ensure the safety of the product for under 3s (who might try to access and tear up the foam inside.  For myself as a mother this shows commitment from the brand for children’s welfare and that a lot of consideration has been given to the design of the Padoo®.

Obviously use parental common sense when using the Padoo® in soft play mode and supervise younger children.

So, would we recommend the Padoo®?

My children LOVE the stylish family home play sofa – it is big enough for siblings (or friends) to play and relax together. The Padoo® changes size to fit stylishly in any sized room which makes it the ultimate piece of furniture for children aged 2+ to encourage imaginative, physical, and open-ended play. Look on the website for build inspiration. Who needs screen-time! Safe, light, and durable the modular cushion components have saved my corner sofa from being stomped and jumped on. Price wise it is a higher value purchase, but I balance this with it being a start-up business, a high-quality item with years of use and that I was looking at buying a sofa bed which retails in the region of £300. The Padoo® can be used as a bed and moved between rooms so I don’t have to make multiple purchases, a chair and a soft play kit would be expensive to buy. I would love to see as Little Imagineers grow, ‘Add On’ cushions to purchase, i.e., sausage shapes that could double up as arm rests and extra assault course obstacles!
