8 Tips On Dressing For Two with Want That Trend #KatiePiperMaternityWear @WantThatTrend

by Author: Jade Lloyd

Are you expecting a baby?

When you are expecting, comfort is crucial. That does not mean you have to spend nine months in a bin bag…though a few days in your pyjamas are perfectly acceptable! There’s also no need to hide in the tent-like dresses and sweaters your mother and grandmother might have worn.

Want that trend

Our Top 8 Simple Tips For Choosing Maternity Wear.

My Tip: Think affordable and choose wisely. You will not be pregnant forever, pick a few key pieces and don’t blow your budget on items that only have one wear in them.

Choose soft, stretchy fabrics.

Pick natural if possible as synthetic materials tend to keep in the heat and let’s face it you will already be sweaty and itchy! Items with elasticity are a must as your baby bump needs room to grow.

My Tip: Don’t go braless and invest. You may need a few different sizes through the trimesters. Thick straps, soft material (as you may find sleeping in your bra becomes the norm) and go with no under wiring as rib size tends to grow. Pick up a bra expander to save money.

Keep it simple.

You want to balance style, comfort and items that will last the duration of the pregnancy. The tried and tested maternity legging is always a safe bet. Layer up with a long vest top and an open cardigan which will also be practical for breastfeeding once baby arrives. Build your wardrobe so that you can peel off or add clothing with little hassle. Pair with flip-flops or heeled boots depending on the occasion!

My Tip: Go over bump rather than under when picking maternity jeans. Under, if the size is a bit snug can cut in and put uncomfortable pressure on your tummy. Over’s soft bump band adds support. In the first trimester invest in a trouser expander to make those jeans a little more forgiving.

Think before and after.

Pick maternity clothes that will also work for nursing. Wrap dresses and feeding tops. You may want to stock up on the essentials as little ones tend to stain their clothes and yours constantly!

My Tip: Dress with confidence. They are easier to pull on in the morning and take less consideration than pairing pieces together. Remember that most sizes are based on your pre-pregnancy size, but brands will vary. When in doubt, go larger.

Don’t lose you.

Just because its maternity does not mean it has to be bland. From bold colours to patterns your pregnancy wardrobe does not all have to be black (though remember to buy staple pieces that will go with everything). Select pieces you can see yourself wearing with your normal wardrobe after the pregnancy.

Katie Piper Maternity Collection.

Most department stores have a maternity clothing section. If you are anything like me trekking around shops with morning sickness is not my idea of fun. Want That Trend fashion brand offers a range of gorgeous, affordable fashion online a refreshing change from the usual overly expensive maternity wear! Katie Piper has launched her first clothing range with WantThatTrend.com. Her ‘Mother’ capsule maternity range is made up of 26 trend-led pieces – from stylish midi dresses, bright tops and figure-flattering jumpsuits.

Our favourite pieces in the collection include:

Coral 3/4 Sleeve Wrap Over Belted Dress £24.94

The colour is a little brighter than the picture online but that is only a positive as it makes the dress the perfect statement occasion piece. This is a type of dress that even if you are feeling tired and rubbish as a mum-to-be or new mum you know you will still look good. The maternity shift dress has a stunning v wrap neckline, the material is quality; well fitted with a full back.

Navy Swan 3/4 Sleeve Wrap Skater Dress £22.95

I am in love with this gorgeous Swan print. Again, it has a deep neckline made of lightweight, stretchy material. This dress shouts Summer’s day! I was concerned that as the fabric is thin it would be see-through and potentially unflattering, but the deep navy colour ensures this does not happen. It is super soft, and I can see myself wearing it long-term.

The Katie Piper collection proves it is possible to feel confident, comfortable and stylish when pregnant!

One of my favourite features are that both dresses are suitable for nursing, are multitasking items and fit through all stages of pregnancy. For comfort and ease there are no fastenings, no tricky zips to manage! The two dresses offer very different looks, the print casual and playful, why not pair it with a blazer and flat boots? The coral dress would be perfect for a meal out, christening or wedding with a pair of heeled sandals. A bonus? £1 from each sale will be donated to the Katie Piper Foundation to support their work with burns survivors. We are in love with the entire collection!

Did you end up just wearing regular clothes in larger sizes, your partner’s jumper or did you fall into the trap of spending a fortune on new clothing? What was your favourite item of maternity wear?
