My Dream Winter Home Destination #Iceland #Logcabin

by Author: Jade Lloyd

If you could pick any place in the world, where would you live?

Whilst wedding planning my partner and I have been looking at winter Honeymoon destinations. Browsing through websites filled with snowy peaks, idyllic locations and clear star filled skies makes me pine for the perfect winter home. There is nothing more comforting that the smell of wood smoke in cold air and whilst the UK can get pretty chilly it doesn’t have the romance of Iceland’s culture and history.

Would you pick a chalet in Switzerland, an igloo in Greenland, a House in Finland?

Perched on a fell top with panoramic views over the lakes and sparse Nordic forests I dream of a traditional cedar wood cabin with Northern Lights potential, with a fairy-tale covering of frost. Snuggled up next to a roaring fire my ideal home would be located close to my favourite city of Reykjavik but in quiet natural surroundings for peace and freedom. The landscape is rich with geological wonders – boiling mud pools, spurting geysers, glaciers, waterfalls and active volcanoes.

Adventurous days and cosy nights.

Outdoors is the word to describe Icelandic activities. The landscape is perfect for long walks and excursions to view the local wildlife. Afterwards? There is nothing like Northern comfort. The calming winter landscape is icily beautiful and indoors, it’s all about being cozy. With everything needed for relaxation the perfect restful winter evening would include a good hot chocolate and warm woollen socks.

Icelandic interior décor.

With vaulted ceilings of weathered timber and open floor plan interior style will be informal, comfortable, country and epitomise home. White and blue are ideal prominent colours but the schemes would stretch into grey and neutrals. Other tones could be incorporated into the interior with home accessories such as warming, scented candles. Simple, thoughtful, functional and beautiful. A dream home.

Ways to keep warm.

Braced for the cold the rooms would be filled with sheepskin rugs and throws, the windows swamped with heavy drapes and the bed dressed with Julian Charles ready for the family to curl up in thick blankets. Throw lavender and pine cones on the fire then the halls will smell like the surrounding woods.

When we wake in the morning, early from the light on snow, hot coffee and Skyr with fruit will make the perfect breakfast.

Where would you live if money was no option? Do you prefer winter wonderlands or summer sun?

Ooh so many exciting possibilities! I think I would have to travel first as I am not sure so maybe I have yet to find my ideal destination. I do love the snow and magical ambience but I am fonder of heat and sun myself!
